The Middle East and the Near East
By Keefe I., 5th Grade
The Middle East and the Near East consist of 14 countries together: Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and last of all, Iran. The Middle East harvests the most oil in the world. The Middle East and the Near East are 2 of my 4 favorite regions in the world. The Middle East and the Near East border these countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Egypt. Some people consider Egypt as the Middle East, but I consider it in the region of North Africa. Yet again some people think Azerbaijan is part of the Middle East, but it is Muslim, so I can see where they’re coming from. I consider Azerbaijan in the Caucasus region. The capitals of each country: Near East: Turkey: Ankara; Syria: Damascus; Lebanon: Beirut; Israel: Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv-Yafo; Jordan: Amman. Middle East: Saudi Arabia: Riyadh; Yemen: Sana’a’; Oman: Muscat; United Arab Emirates: Abu Dhabi; Qatar: Doha; Bahrain: Manama; Kuwait: Kuwait City; Iraq: Baghdad; Iran: Tehran. I hope you learned a lot! Bye!
Thanks so much, keefe! I learned a lot! My wife, Ginny, & I have been to Armenia because our daughter Lynnell was in the Peace Corp there. We loved it! Kids were very artistic! But I have a question: Where is Norway?
Kirsti has been in a lot of countries. Ask her about it.
Keep up your great work!
Iver Haugen (Kirsti’s dad)
Iver, when it’s a question of geography, I defer to Keefe, not the other way around. You ought to ask him some tough geography questions. He’s hard to stump!
Keefe, you amaze me with your knowledge and how well you remember things. I’m going to miss having a walking, talking atlas in Publishing. I think you’re faster than Google Maps and Wikipedia when it comes to answering geography questions. I hope you enjoy middle school and that you keep learning and writing about new things! Maybe you can write your next post in Russian!
