Sewing on My New Machine
By Megan, 4th Grade
I started sewing wallets, stuffed animals, pillow and lot of other small projects, but then in Christmas 2011 I got a sewing machine. The sewing machine lets me make bigger things faster. The first thing I made on my new sewing machine were ornaments out of brown paper bag and then sewed around the edge. I also made a dress out of greenish and blue tropical fabric with ruffled sleeves and yellow ribbon down the front of the top sixth of it. I’ve made three skirts: one is a circle skirt and the others are skirts made with two sides of fabric, unlike the circle skirt with one piece of fabric in the shape of a circle with a circle in the middle. Right now I am sewing a nightdress with a kitten pattern on it in soft fabric.

Megan, your sewing projects inspire me! I especially like the matching outfits you made for you and the bunny – too sweet! I hope you’ll share more projects with us, though I see you’ve already started work on Scratch programming from MIT – cool! Which is more fun for you, the sewing or the programming?
Thanks! I like programming better! Well actually, right now I am doing more programing because I made a lot of Christmas presents on my sewing machine, so I’m doing more of programming now as a change! Even though it’s already February!
Wow! If only I could sew so well. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! I didn’t realize it was up on the blog already! I think when my mom sent the pictures to put on my sewing post, Kirsti posted it and put up my pictures. thanks again! Megan
Very impressive! Which of these projects was your favorite?
Thanks, J HG!! my favorite project were the skirts especially the circle skirt! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow Megan! I’m a beginner at sewing (without a machine). What should I start with
Megan, your matching skirt and bunny are so cute! I am amazed that you sew so many things and they all turn out great. Do you use patterns that you choose or do you make some of your own too?
I sew some, but I am inspired to sew more after seeing your wonderful creations. 🙂
