Why I do what I do…
I just watched an incredible TED Talk. It’s 20 minutes. I know, that’s a commitment, but it’s 20 minutes of children’s author and illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka talking about the people who influenced and encouraged his work. I do what I do with the publishing program because I love it. But, it would be a dream come true if I ever have one small part in inspiring kids the way he was inspired by his grandparents and his teachers. Key point here: he didn’t have an easy time growing up, but time and again, a handful of people took notice of him, gave him authentic encouragement and real opportunities to apply himself, and propelled him to fulfill his dreams.
OK, I bagged the idea of vacuuming the living room and made the 20 minute commitment to watch this, and am so glad I did! This is awesome and inspiring, Kirsti! Thanks for sharing it 🙂 As my mom likes to say, “dust keeps, just don’t get it wet”…so I’m now on to vacuuming the living room, before it gets wet in there, of course!
And as my friend Elizabeth in Scotland says, “clean is just a moment in time…” I hadn’t thought of you and Siri when I watched this video earlier, but the connection is perfect! Your comment also reminds me of my college friend Bart, who as a kid brought the hose inside to water the green shag carpeting – he wanted to see if it would grow… don’t tell Jake! (But if Jake has a music video to publish, tell him to send it my way… this blog is a place for kids to shine…)
LOL! Very cool, will do. I love what you are doing 🙂
