The Squirrel: A short story
By Kate V., 5th grade
The squirrel silently climbed up the tree. Gripping the tough bark with its sharp dewclaws, it scurried up to a branch to nibble on an acorn it had found. It was round and cream colored, with a tiny scratch on the side. The little squirrel nibbled here and there at the nut, then set it aside for later. Glancing upward, it stared at the setting sun, curled up, and went to sleep. Sighing contentedly, it seemed to smile with satisfaction.
We have lots of squirrels in our yard. Loved your story! Love squirrels, too!

Thanks! That was a small part. Little bits of the squirrel’s life will be blogged on about 2x every month.
Loved the story. I watch squirrels in my yard too. There is one that we named Oliver that always buries nuts in my flowerpot on the porch. He thinks it’s the best place to hide them since I never eat them 🙂
